Who We Are

Elder Kenneth Brantley

OUR JOURNEY

In 2023, I first felt the stirring in my heart that I was made for more. I didn’t know where God was going to lead me, but I had been praying for Him to reveal His plan for my life. In early 2024, my father-in-law’s health began to decline, and my mother-in-law became his full-time caregiver. The love she poured into him was evident, but it took a toll on her as she is in her 70’s. My wife Alanna and I weren’t prepared for elder care, but we knew something had to change or we could find ourselves caring for two aging parents. We began praying, and soon realized how blessed we were, when my company allowed me to work remotely, giving me the flexibility to support our family. We couldn’t help medically, but we focused on giving my mother-in-law moments of rest. I took my father-in-law to Men’s Bible Study, watched and talked a lot of football with him, and my wife prepared meals on occasion to take the load off. These small acts gave her mom space to recharge, and it deepened a friendship between my father-in-law and I that I’ll always treasure. Shortly before he passed, we took him on one last fishing trip and the joy on his face as he held up the crappie he caught is a memory I’ll cherish forever.

In early 2025, my wife and I found ourselves unexpectedly invited to join for dinner a few couples that we really didn’t know. One man shared how his aging mother had lost her license and a family friend stepped in to help: by driving her to appointments, church, and the grocery store. Simple things, but it gave the family such peace in their hearts to know she had help and was cared for. My wife and I were on a long west coast road trip. After that dinner and during our time on the road, we realized that simple story had planted a seed and a stirring in both our hearts. Through that experience with my in-law’s and one unexpected conversation, God revealed a deeper calling. That moment led us to launch Salt Light Bridge; a ministry born from love and dedicated to combating social isolation and loneliness amongst our Senior community "Neighbors", not just for their well-being but as a support system for their families as well.
